Question:
Can I use a long extension USB cable or USB booster for a long cable run?
Answer:
No.
Question:
Why are the frequencies in the RS-BA memory channel not the same as the frequencies on my radio?
Answer:
The RS-BA1 is designed to allow you to use it as if it is its own radio. It uses a remote radio to transmit and receive. The memory channels programmed in the radio are not used by the RS-BA1; you create your own memory channels in the RS-BA1.
Question:
Can my radio can be turned off remotely from the RS-BA1?
Answer:
It depends, not all older radios can be turned off by the RS-BA1. To find out, open the Remote Control software and go to the Connect Setting. Select your radio in Model, select a Connection type, and see if the Software closing turns OFF the Radio setting is active. If it is grayed out, you will not be able to turn off the radio using the selected Connection. For more information, see the RS-BA1 Quick Setup Guide.
Question:
Can I use a CW key with the RS-BA1?
Answer:
You can use a straight, paddle, or electronic key as long as it is connected directly to your radio. You cannot use a CW key remotely.

Can I use third-party software with my radio while using the RS-BA1 software?
Answer:
No. The RS-BA1 controls the COM port assignments and does not allow other software to use the COM ports.
Question:
When I create a connection to my radio using the RSBA1, the radio will start transmitting.
Answer:
On your radio, check the USB SEND setting in Set Mode (e.g. in Connectors on the IC-7300 screen page 4/4). If set to RTS, the radio will key when the RS-BA1 software establishes a connection to the radio. By default this setting should be set to OFF.
Menu> Set> Connectors > go to page 4 of 4 (if your radio display has these menus)
Question:
Does the RS-BA1 software support digital modes?
Answer:
No. The RS-BA1 does not support any digital mode. It can be used only for CW and voice.
Question:
I can't make changes to the remote control application. All the options in Connection Settings are grayed out.
Answer:
The Remote Control application still thinks it is connected to a radio, and will not allow changes to the settings in Connection Settings. The Connect button should be gray (not connected), and not blue(connected). If the Connect button is blue, press the Connect button to start the disconnection process. Once grayed out (you may receive an error message in the process, just acknowledge it to continue) then you can make changes to the connection settings.
Question:
When using the RS-BA1 Remote Control software directly connected to my radio: When I adjust the AF Gain control, only the radio’s volume will adjust and no sound comes out of my PC speakers.
Answer:
If you are using only the Remote Control software, then that is correct outcome. The Remote Control software only controls the radio functions. To have sound come from your PC speakers you have to have the Remote Utility software running as well. The Remote Utility not only provides remote connectivity but also functions as a bridge between the AF in/out between the radio and PC.
Question:
I have both the Remote Control, and Remote Utility applications running. I cannot get sound from my PC when connected locally but if I am connected remotely I will hear the radio.
Answer:
Most configurations for local use do not require AF to be bridged to the PC. If you do require AF, you have to select your radio in the Remote Utility software at Connect Setting > Remote Utility.
Question:
I cannot control the AFO on my PC speakers from the AF Gain control on the Remote Control software, but the physical radios AFO will decrease/increase when the AF Gain is adjusted.
Answer:
Check your Remote Utility setting in the Remote Control software’s Connect Setting window. The Remote Utility field should have your radio selected. If set properly, you can turn down the physical radio’s AF gain on the radio then control the PC’s speaker output without changing the actual radio’s volume.
Question:
The ANT button on my Remote Control software doesn't work. Why?
Answer:
The ANT button is off by default in the Set Mode. To enable: Click the Set Mode button. Set ANT Select Enable to ON.
Question:
My PC does not have a CD drive. How can I install the software?
Answer:
The contents of the CD can be copied to a different media, such as an SD card or Flash drive. Alternatively, a public library or commercial shipper can also be used to transfer the contents of the RS-BA1 disk.
Question:
When I am connected remotely and using a USB connection, I can't control the radio squelch. It is always open no matter what I do.
Answer:
In the RSBA1 Remote Control software, click Set Mode (wrench at the top of the display). The Set Mode window will open. Set USB Audio SQL to ON.
