Question:
How does the Pre-Amp work in the radio?
Answer:
The Pre-Amp works differently than in previous Icom radios.
- The S Meter indicates the incoming signal strength and does not reflect the gain after the pre-amps are turned on.
- Pre-Amp 1 is more effective at HF low bands; Pre-Amp 2 is more effective at HF high bands.
- Pre-Amps 1 and 2 are not additive.
- The actual measured gain by independant sources is: Pre-Amp 1 - Approximately 7dB gain over input at low band frequencies; Pre-Amp 2 - Approximately 9dB gain over input at higher band frequencies.
Question:
The real-time clock loses its setting when I turn it off.
Answer:
The internal battery must be charged before the clock will hold time. Icom recommends that you leave the power supply to the radio on continuously for one week to allow the battery and internal back-up capacitor to fully charge. The radio may be used during that time and the radio may be turned on and off.
