If there is an error message check the following:
1. Radio is powered on? → Turn power on.
2. Battery (portables) is charged? A full charge is necessary for cloning. → Fully charge the battery.
3. Using the correct software? → Check kbase and update as needed.
4. Firmware/software are compatible? Very old firmware are often not compatible with current software. → Check kbase as needed.
5. OPC cable working properly? → See OPC Cable Issues below.
6. OPC Cable Issues:
a) What does the cable look like? Only Icom cables work. → See Kbase articles on USB Drivers for Software Cloning Cables (on Kbase home page).
b) Is it a USB or Serial cable? → Newer radios require USB only; serial cable can be used with a USB adapter for older radios.
c) Using the proper cable for your Operating System? → Search kbase for article # 2271 (enter article # in the search field) explaining B vs non-B. (Windows 8/10 require “B” Cable w/ matching drivers.)
d) Is the correct Com port assigned in your software? → Go to Device Manager. → Icom driver correct w/ no error symbol? → Assign Com port in sw.
e) Using correct driver? → Go to Device Manager then plug in cable. → Shows Icom USB? (no error symbol) → Yes, assign Com port in sw. No, error symbol is present. → Check kbase # 2271 for proper driver or reinstall driver.
7. Is the Clone port disabled? → If the radio was programmed with the D-Sub 25pin or Option Connector Mode set to GPS or PC CMD, the radio
won’t perform clone requests. → Reset by pressing P0 and side 1 key at the same time and then read the radio.
8. Transceiver Data set to Inhibited in software? → Write a new file into the radio with Transceiver Data Enabled. NOTE: This erases the existing file.
